A popular prescription injectable known as Botox can treat deep creases across your brow and around your eyes. Nevertheless, did you know that there are other items that function similarly and have Food and Drug Administration approval to treat wrinkles and lines brought on by aging?

Neuromodulators: What should you know?

Botulinum toxin type A injections for wrinkle smoothing are described by neuromodulators. Little doses of this toxin can momentarily relax the muscles that cause some facial creases and wrinkles, making your skin appear smoother and younger.

Neuromodulator therapy often has results that continue for three months or longer before you need more injections.

Although Botox is the most well-known neuromodulator brand on the market right now, you don't have to use it to treat common aging skin issues like crow's feet and frown lines.

Dysport®

The Food and Drug Administration granted Dysport® approval in 2009 to treat frown lines. Although it has the same strength as Botox, it works far better on larger areas, like your forehead. Because it contains lactose and proteins from cow's milk, this injection may not be suited for persons who have a milk allergy.

The effects of Dysport® last for three to four months before you need follow-up injections.

Xeomin®

In 2011, the Food and Drug Administration authorized the use of Xeomin® to treat muscle stiffness and frown lines. Botulinum toxin is not combined with proteins like it is in Botox, so it doesn't need to be refrigerated. Some, especially those with sensitivities, may find the injections at room temperature to be more comfortable.

For those who don't respond well to Botox or Dysport®, Xeomin® may be a possibility. Results from this injection last for three to four months.

Jeuveau®

2019 2019 saw the Food and Drug Administration's approval of Jeuveau® for the treatment of crow's feet and frown lines. It has outcomes comparable to Botox and can last three to six months.

Because Jeuveau® is so new, there isn't much information about its long-term effectiveness and safety.

Daxxify®

Based on the largest phase 3 clinical research of neuromodulators on glabellar lines ever undertaken, Daxxify® is the only Food and Drug Administration-approved peptide-powered neuromodulator, with a median duration of 6 months and in some patients up to 9 months. Daxxify® offers the longest-lasting results in the market because of unique peptide technology.

What areas can you treat with neuromodulators?

The forehead lines, crow's feet, and frown lines are the dynamic wrinkles that are most frequently treated.

Shots can relax the tissue for a softer appearance in those who complain of platysmal bands, which are pronounced bands of tissue on the side of the neck.

some people grind their teeth, which tightens the muscle and squares the jaw." The size of the muscle can be decreased by injecting a neuromodulator around the jawline.

Doctors may inject near the base of the nose to assist prevent the tip from going down and at the top of the nose to prevent wrinkles or "bunny lines."

A tiny amount of neuromodulator applied to the lips can relax muscle fibers and lessen the visibility of vertical lip lines. Moreover, the injection might weaken the upper lip muscle to stop gums from showing and produce a less gummy smile.

The under-eye muscle can occasionally thicken and enlarge. A drop of neuromodulator beneath the eye could be applied to relax that muscle and lessen the prominence of the under-eye bag. Such small adjustments might give the eye a fresher, more open appearance.
